Transportation Project Engineer

Compensation: $100,000 - $140,000

A well-established civil engineering consultancy with a strong presence across Illinois is seeking a Transportation Project Engineer to join their Chicago office. The firm has a proven track record delivering transportation, roadway, highway, and municipal infrastructure projects for state and local government clients.

This is a varied role where you will operate as a Project Manager on smaller assignments and Project Engineer on larger schemes, giving you real ownership of projects and the chance to develop client-facing and commercial skills alongside technical design work.

• Lead and contribute to the design and delivery of transportation, roadway, and highway engineering projects
• Perform technical tasks including research, reports, design, specifications, and plan preparation
• Support business development activity including attending client meetings
• Assist with proposal preparation and coordination to secure new work
• Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team across projects of varying scale and complexity

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• 4–8+ years of progressive transportation design experience
• PE license required
• Proven experience on IDOT, Illinois Tollway, CDOT, county, and locally administered federal aid projects
• Proficiency in Micro Station and/or AutoCAD — Open Roads experience a plus
• Working knowledge of IDOT specifications and design standards
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Base salary between $100,000 – $140,000 depending on experience
