This role requires candidates to begin their employment at our Chicago office for approximately 12–18 months as part of an extensive training program. During this time, you will gain hands‑on experience conducting environmental assessments while working closely with experienced professionals in the field. Upon successful completion of the program, candidates may have the opportunity to relocate to another city where an open position is available.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Environmental Assessor to join our growing team. Responsibilities and Duties:- Draft clear, concise, and technically sound Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) reports in accordance with ASTM standards and EPA regulations.
- Review and synthesize historical land use data, including aerial photographs, fire insurance maps, city directories, and regulatory databases.
- Analyze environmental records and regulatory agency files to assess potential contamination risks.
- Prepare supporting documentation such as site maps, figures, appendices, and photographic logs based on field team input.
- Communicate with project managers, technical reviewers, and field staff to ensure accuracy and consistency of reported findings.
- Coordinate with clients and team members to clarify project details and reporting needs.
- Track project timelines, deliverables, and documentation to support timely and efficient report completion.
- Maintain working knowledge of current environmental regulations, industry trends, and Phase I ESA best practices.
- Participate in ongoing training, peer reviews, and mentorship opportunities to enhance technical writing skills.
- On occasion, travel to local sites to conduct phase 1 ESA's
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Biology, or related field.
- 0–2 years writing Phase I environmental site assessments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for field work.
- Internship or consulting experience is a plus but not required.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Curiosity, motivation, and a desire to learn.
- Ability to work on projects concurrently
- Proven ability to successfully deliver a quality product on time
- Ability to cultivate strong relationships within a team
Salary range: $55,000 – $60,000. This is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role.
The pay scale for this role considers a wide range of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Please note, the disclosed pay scale estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic location where the position may be filled.
You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary incentive bonus program which is dependent on various factors, including, but not limited to, individual and organizational performance.
