Lead Substation Project Engineer – Chicago, IL (U.S. only). This role involves executing substation physical and P&C projects from scoping to energization, ensuring quality control, design compliance, and client standards. Candidates will lead a design team comprised of engineers, designers, and CAD technicians.

Location & Travel

Chicago, IL. Occasional client travel required. Candidates must be located in the United States.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute substation physical and P&C projects, including design of one-line drawings, three-line drawings, schematics, wiring, plan-section drawings, conduit and grounding drawings.
  • Perform quality control checks on substation physical and P&C design projects.
  • Create and verify bill of materials, estimates, and schedules for projects.
  • Provide complete project lifecycle support from scoping to final design and energization.
  • Work with client standards to implement design.
  • Collaborate with designers/drafters to produce required drawings.
  • Offer engineering support during construction.
  • Maintain compliance with quality control, safety, scope, schedule, and budget.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Six (6+) years of substation design experience.
  • Excellent communication and client interaction skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience supervising a team of engineers, designers, or drafters.
  • Experience collaborating with EPC firms or other project developers.
Desired Additional Experience
  • Engineer Intern (“EI” or “EIT”) professional certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with bus calculation, relay settings, grounding and lightning studies, and AC/DC calculations.
  • Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS and CAD tools.
  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Field testing/commissioning experience.
