Senior Environmental Engineer/Project Manager

The Opportunity Tetra Tech is looking for a part-time Senior Environmental Engineer/Project Manager based in Chicago, IL to provide engineering, remedial design, remedial action technical support for projects across the U.S.

Position Summary

This selected candidate will have a strong technical background in environmental remediation from early planning, feasibility studies, remedial design, and remedial action support services. The candidate will be managing and supporting various public and private sector environmental remediation projects.

Essential Job Functions

The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:

  • Oversee, perform, or support remedial design for environmental remediation projects in upland and sediment settings.
  • Oversee, perform or support geotechnical and environmental pre-design investigations and treatability studies.
  • Oversee, perform or support construction quality control/assurance programs for remedial action implementation projects.
  • Develop conceptual site models, conceptual planning, remediation options assessment, feasibility studies, and engineering cost estimates for various complex multi-media remediation and habitat restoration projects.
  • Work with and manage multi-disciplinary technical teams for successful completion of projects.
  • Manage client relationships, expectations, and development of repeat and new business.
  • Mentor and guide early and mid-career engineers and scientists.
Required Qualifications

B.S. or advanced degree in civil or environmental engineering.

Licensed Professional Engineer.

Minimum 20 Years of experience.

Customer focused and work well in a team environment.

Effective time management and organizational skills.

Excellent technical writing and communication skills (both written and verbal), as well as proficiency with MS Office applications are required.

  • Passing a criminal background check.
  • Driving on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with environmental site investigations and remediation (including under CERCLA, the Illinois Site Remediation Program, or the Great Lakes Legacy Act).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and client management skills.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Previous experience with remedial action construction quality control/assurance programs.
  • Previous experience with designing, implementing, and managing environmental and geotechnical pre-design investigations.
  • 40-hr HAZWOPER training certification with 8-hr refresher required + clean driving history for travel to client’s sites, as needed.

Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and using a computer.

This position will mostly consist of office work.

Project sites may be outdoors within the U.S. during all seasons, including peak summer and winter conditions.

Additional Information

This part-time position requires up to 10% travel.

Travel to client sites and other locations to conduct meetings, site visits, etc. will be required.

Must be able to drive on an as-needed basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.

Benefits

The rate of pay for this position is $65.00/hour - $75.00/hour, depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
