Electrical Engineer (Solar) – Contract-to-Hire
Aspen Technical Staffing is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer (Solar) for a contract-to-hire opportunity supporting innovative renewable energy projects throughout the United States. This hybrid position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge solar, battery energy storage, and distributed energy projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams on projects ranging from commercial and industrial installations to utility-scale renewable energy facilities.

Responsibilities- Perform electrical engineering design for renewable energy projects under the guidance of senior engineering staff.
- Collaborate with Project Engineers and Project Managers to develop engineering schedules, budgets, and project deliverables.
- Design solar photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) installations, including:
- Rooftop solar
- Carport solar
- Ground-mounted fixed tilt systems
- Single-axis tracking systems
- Develop PV array layouts, DC string sizing, equipment layouts, and utility interconnection designs.
- Perform solar energy production modeling and performance analysis.
- Prepare construction drawings including:
- One-line diagrams
- Electrical network diagrams
- Equipment layouts
- Interconnection drawings
- Develop equipment and construction specifications.
- Perform engineering calculations including:
- NEC maximum system voltage
- Conductor sizing
- Overcurrent protection
- Voltage drop
- Utility disconnect requirements
- Conduit sizing
- Design DC and low- to medium-voltage power distribution systems.
- Develop project cost estimates, financial evaluations, and return-on-investment analyses.
- Support projects throughout the complete lifecycle, including:
- Feasibility studies
- Preliminary engineering
- Detailed design
- Bid package development
- Construction support
- Startup and commissioning
- Participate in client meetings, technical reviews, and occasional site visits.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 4+ years of electrical engineering experience supporting renewable energy projects.
- Experience designing and integrating utility-scale solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical power distribution systems and renewable energy technologies.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure through comity.
- 8+ years of renewable energy engineering experience.
- Experience with utility-scale solar and battery storage projects.
- Medium-voltage AC collection system design experience.
- Protection and control systems experience.
- Power system modeling experience using ETAP and/or SKM.
- Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), International Building Code (IBC), NFPA 855, IEEE, NESC, and related industry standards.
- Experience performing project financial evaluations including CAPEX, OPEX, ROI, and power purchase agreement (PPA) recommendations.
- Field construction support and commissioning experience.
- Experience with emerging renewable technologies such as agrivoltaics, floating solar PV, fuel cells, or advanced energy storage solutions.
