Managing Consultant in Environmental Due Diligence
Locations: Chicago, IL, and Milwaukee, WI, or flexible USA location

Ramboll is seeking a highly motivated Environmental Managing Consultant to join the firm’s Chicago and Milwaukee offices. Other locations are possible as well. You will bring your strong analytical abilities to evaluate contamination and regulatory compliance risks and other environmental, health and safety issues.
Requirements:
Bachelor or Master of Science in Environmental, Chemical or other related Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology with consulting experience.
- Complete diligence reviews of complex commercial and industrial sites.
- Complete limited environmental compliance reviews of industrial sites, reviewing and abstracting regulatory requirements for multi‑media environmental compliance.
- Review site investigation reports and provide conclusions and opinions related to contamination extent, recommendations and scope development.
- Prepare technical reports that effectively communicate site findings.
- Formulate conclusions and opinions and communicate with clients.
- Travel to industrial and commercial facilities for site visits (typically one day in duration), including local and non‑local travel.
- Support multiple projects and meet high‑quality standards on deliverables.
- Design and execute complete projects of substantial size and complexity.
- Conduct independent technical analyses and direct analyses of others.
- Develop innovative approaches to solving complex problems.
- Document technical analyses and research.
- Prepare draft work products and review/ edit others’ work products.
- Finalize client communications.
- Assist in proposal preparation and client contracts.
- Lead client discussions and develop clients independently.
- Assist in development and management of project budgets.
- Present complex technical concepts effectively both orally and in writing.
- Delegate assignments, responsibilities and accountabilities to employees in collaboration with Project Managers; QA/QC of written reports as necessary.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Chemical or Geologic), Environmental Science or related field. Minimum 8 years of experience in environmental consulting;
Master’s degrees welcomed. - Understanding of diligence reviews and liability assessments for M&A deals.
- Experience evaluating risks associated with M&A for buyers, sellers, lenders and investors.
- Strong experience managing staff, including full‑employee lifecycle roles.
- Effective written and verbal communication with clients.
- Knowledge of multi‑media environmental compliance topics and regulations:
Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Spill Prevention/Control and Countermeasure, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System, Emergency Plan and Community Right‑to‑Know. - Willingness/ability to travel up to 30% of the time; valid driver’s license.
- Physical requirements:
climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing/sitting/walking, pushing/pulling, lifting up to 40 lbs; exposure to extremes in weather, high noise levels, hazards such as moving machinery, electrical current, chemicals; may require PPE and specific training.
