We're supporting a major pharmaceutical manufacturing expansion and are looking for an experienced Lead Automation Engineer to drive the automation strategy and execution of a large-scale GMP project.
This is an opportunity to play a key technical leadership role on a high-impact manufacturing facility, working alongside Process Engineering, CQV, Quality, Operations, and leading automation vendors.
What You'll DoAs the Lead Automation Engineer, you will lead the design, implementation, and startup of automation systems while ensuring compliance, reliability, and successful project delivery.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the automation strategy and defining system architecture
- Developing and reviewing URS, FRS, Control Narratives, Cause & Effect Matrices, and Sequence of Operations
- Coordinating integration between DeltaV, PLCs, MES, PI Historian, and package equipment
- Managing automation vendors and participating in design reviews and FATs
- Supporting software configuration, system integration, and commissioning activities
- Reviewing FAT, SAT, IQ, and OQ documentation
- Supporting startup, troubleshooting, and operational readiness
- Ensuring complete documentation, software turnover, and long-term maintainability
- Acting as the technical automation lead throughout the project lifecycle
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related discipline
- 8+ years of Automation Engineering experience
- Pharmaceutical, Biotech, or other GMP manufacturing experience
- Strong expertise with Emerson DeltaV
- Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs and Rockwell Automation platforms
- Experience supporting FAT, SAT, Commissioning, IQ/OQ, and Startup activities
- Strong understanding of automation architecture and system integration
- Ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering, CQV, Quality, and Operations teams
Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:
- PI Historian
- MES (POMS or similar)
- Ignition SCADA
- ISA-88 / Batch Automation
- Greenfield pharmaceutical manufacturing projects
- Vendor management and package equipment integration
- Large-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing project
- Technical leadership role with high visibility
