Director of Development – Utility-Scale Solar & BESS
We are seeking an experienced Director of Development to lead the advancement of utility-scale Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from origination through commercial operation. This role is ideal for a development professional with a strong technical foundation, preferably an engineering degree and experience in engineering or consulting environments.
Our company takes a disciplined approach to development, focusing on a select number of high-quality projects and achieving a consistently high success rate through technical excellence, thoughtful stakeholder engagement, and strong execution.
Key Responsibilities- Lead utility-scale Solar and BESS projects through the full development lifecycle.
- Manage permitting, environmental review, and regulatory approvals.
- Direct interconnection activities, including utility coordination and agreement negotiations.
- Oversee engineering consultants and technical due diligence efforts.
- Negotiate and manage key project contracts, land agreements, and commercial arrangements.
- Support procurement, construction, and project execution activities.
- Coordinate with legal, commercial, engineering, finance, and construction teams to achieve project milestones.
- Lead stakeholder engagement with utilities, landowners, agencies, and community representatives.
- Support offtake discussions, project financing efforts, and strategic portfolio decisions.
- 10+ years of renewable energy development experience, including utility-scale solar and/or BESS projects.
- Demonstrated success advancing projects through permitting, interconnection, and construction.
- Strong understanding of project economics, contracts, and risk management.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or similar).
- Background in engineering consulting, technical advisory, or renewable energy consultancy.
- Experience working directly with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and energy infrastructure stakeholders.
- Familiarity with energy storage technologies and utility-scale project execution.
