Job Description
Amazon Web Services is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join a global engineering team responsible for designing and continuously innovating our expanding data center footprint. Engineers will create resilient, cost‑effective electrical distribution systems, justify and communicate technical decisions, and drive continuous improvements across all stages—from concept to construction documentation to site selection, commissioning, and turnover.
You will collaborate with engineers, supply‑chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and external partners such as utilities, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors. Successful candidates will manage concurrent projects across multiple geographic regions and support international teams as needed.
Responsibilities- Design data center electrical systems and produce construction documents.
- Create designs that meet quality and budgetary requirements.
- Work with local agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal codes.
- Review and approve equipment submittals.
- Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests before and during construction.
- Collaborate with commissioning teams to test and validate electrical systems.
- Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographic regions.
- Travel to sites for reviews and work with onsite field engineers; provide engineering evaluations, equipment audits, and startup as needed.
- Develop creative, out‑of‑the‑box solutions.
Position is based in Virginia; travel to the head office in Seattle up to 20% of time and majority of time at Virginia‑based data centers. International travel may be required for global teams.
Basic Qualifications- 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission‑critical facilities such as data centers, power generation, or oil and gas.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
- Professional Engineer license.
- Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
- Experience in commissioning.
