Mechanical & Process Piping Designer

Remote (must reside within 1 hour of Chicago, IL or Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN)

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical & Process Piping Designer to support industrial process piping projects from concept through construction. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in piping design, plant layouts, and industrial facilities who can work independently while collaborating with engineers, project managers, and clients.
The successful candidate will lead piping design efforts, develop construction documentation, and contribute to multiple projects in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Required Qualifications- 8+ years of mechanical/process piping design experience
- Strong experience with industrial plant piping design and plant layout
- Experience creating piping isometrics and construction drawings
- Ability to interpret engineering documents and client requirements
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Project coordination or project management experience
- U.S. Citizenship required
Experience with any of the following is a plus:
- AutoCAD Plant 3D
- AutoCAD
- Autodesk Re Cap
- Navisworks
- Inventor
- Smart Plant P&
- Smart 3D
Software experience is preferred but not required. Training can be provided for candidates with strong industrial piping design backgrounds.
Responsibilities- Design and develop process piping systems for industrial facilities
- Prepare detailed piping layouts, isometric drawings, and construction documents
- Develop and update P&IDs and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
- Create 3D models of piping systems, equipment, and instrumentation
- Coordinate with engineers and project teams throughout the design process
- Participate in field visits to collect measurements and document existing conditions
- Support laser scanning activities and integrate scan data into project designs
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and industry standards
- Participate in client design reviews and project coordination meetings
- Assist in preparing complete mechanical construction packages
- $35-$45/hour (depending on experience)
