Civil Engineer (Drainage & Utilities)
We are seeking a motivated Civil Engineer to design, manage, and deliver civil infrastructure projects with a focus on drainage, water and underground utilities. The role combines technical design using Micro Station and AutoCAD with project management, stakeholder coordination, and on-site oversight to ensure safe, efficient and compliant delivery of utility and drainage systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and analysis of drainage and stormwater systems, water distribution, and underground utility networks for linear and site projects.
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings and construction documents using Micro Station and AutoCAD; ensure accuracy and adherence to standards.
- Develop hydraulic and hydrologic models, load computations, and design calculations to support design decisions and regulatory submissions.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors and client stakeholders to deliver projects on time and on budget.
- Produce cost estimates, schedules, technical specifications, and tender documentation; review contractor submissions and as-built records.
- Conduct site visits, inspections and construction supervision to verify installation, resolve technical issues and ensure compliance with design intent.
- Ensure designs meet local codes, environmental regulations and utility owner standards; lead permitting and approval processes as required.
- Mentor junior engineers and CAD technicians; review technical work and provide guidance on best practices and quality control measures.
- Implement risk management and health & safety practices on projects and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline;
Masters degree or specialization in water/drainage preferred. - Professional engineering license (PE, CEng or equivalent) preferred or working toward registration.
- Minimum 5 years experience in civil engineering with demonstrated experience in drainage, water and underground utilities design.
- Proven proficiency with Micro Station and AutoCAD for production of engineering drawings; experience with Civil 3D or similar tools is a plus.
- Practical knowledge of hydraulic/hydrologic modeling tools and methodologies for stormwater and water distribution systems.
- Project management experience, including budgeting, scheduling and stakeholder coordination.
- Strong technical writing, communication and interpersonal skills with ability to present to clients and regulators.
- Experience with site supervision, construction inspection and resolving on-site technical issues.
- Familiarity with local design standards, permitting processes and utility coordination practices.
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
