Position: Synagogue Event Support Associate (PT)

JRC is seeking a friendly, reliable Event Support Associate to provide logistical support for ritual services, community programs, and private events in our synagogue. The ideal candidate enjoys solving problems, interacting with people, and helping events run smoothly from beginning to end.

Salary & Hours

This role is part-time, non-exempt, and pays  20 hourly commensurate with experience.

We are looking for a team member to work weekly shifts beginning September 1, on Tuesdays from 3:15-10:30pm, with opportunities to work additional shifts.

JRC commits to paying for scheduled hours if an event is cancelled less than two weeks (14 days) in advance.

Benefits include paid sick leave in accordance with the Cook County Earned Leave Ordinance.

Essential Functions

Essential job functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Communicate with the Director of Engagement and Programming prior to services and events to understand room set ups, tech, food/beverage, and other event needs.
  • Complete set up and take down of event spaces; requires heavy lifting of tables, chairs, and other furnishings as needed.
  • Set up A/V and other tech equipment, troubleshooting any issues as needed during events.
  • Welcome and assist members, guests, renters, vendors, and caterers, providing excellent customer service throughout events.
  • Serve as the primary on-site support person during events, anticipating and responding to changing needs such as room adjustments, supplies, refreshments, and guest requests.
  • Monitor building access and common areas, ensuring adherence to JRC's safety and security procedures while providing a welcoming environment.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of event spaces before, during, and after services and events, including light cleaning, dishwashing, trash removal, and room reset.
  • Communicate promptly with the Director of Engagement and Programming regarding event updates, facility issues, or situations requiring attention.

Requirements
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have access to your own vehicle for any shifts that require transporting supplies to an offsite location
  • Must be able to lift 30lbs
  • Must be able to perform physical responsibilities of this role including but not limited to stacking chairs, moving chairs on dollies, setting up banquet tables, and more
