Auditor OverviewThe Auditor conducts and documents routine audit examinations across Northern Trust Corporation, reporting directly to an Audit Team Lead or Manager. The role delivers operational insights, enhances internal control design, and coaches team members through audit engagements.
Major Duties- Lead, staff, and consult on audits based on team needs.
- Stay current on regulatory rules and industry changes.
- Manage and perform special projects as assigned.
- Participate in meetings with business units to discuss audit results.
- Communicate with partners at all levels, presenting recommendations on operations and controls.
- Utilize understanding of Corporate units to ensure proper audit controls in services, systems, and operations.
- Evaluate corporate management, business processes, controls, and operating practices during audits and consulting/monitoring engagements.
- Apply analytical skills to review information and identify potential control weaknesses.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the Northern Trust Audit Methodology and adhere to all applicable Department Standards.
- Complete and compile a high‑quality summary of findings and recommendations in a concise and professional manner.
- Plan, execute, and report on audits of the Northern Trust AML/Financial Crimes program in accordance with the annual audit plan.
- Evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of AML related controls including:
- KYC – CDD/EDD
- Transaction Monitoring
- AML Risk Assessment
- Training and governance
- Sanctions and PEP screening
- Auditing experience in the financial services industry and basic accounting principles.
- Professional certifications (CAMS, CFE, CPA, CISA, CIA, ACA, ACCA) and/or an MBA preferred.
- Analytical and organizational skills necessary to conduct audits.
- Strong report writing and workpaper documentation skills.
A college or university degree and 2+ years of auditing and/or systems experience in a financial institution or public accounting experience in the financial services industry is preferred.
