A prominent, growth‑oriented family office is seeking a Tax Director to lead all tax strategy, planning, and compliance across a diverse portfolio of entities, trusts, investments, and global holdings. This is a unique opportunity to work directly with family principals, advisors, and investment teams to shape long‑term wealth, estate, and investment strategies. The role offers a dynamic environment, complex tax challenges, and the ability to influence decision‑making at the highest level.
Responsibilities:
Tax Planning
- Develop and implement comprehensive tax strategies aligned with long‑term wealth, investment, and estate planning objectives.
- Evaluate tax implications for investments, asset allocations, liquidity events, real estate, private equity, and philanthropic initiatives.
- Advise on entity formation, restructuring, and cross‑border considerations.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and communicate relevant impacts proactively.
Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Oversee preparation and filing of federal, state, and international tax returns for individuals, trusts, partnerships, and corporate entities.
- Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and full compliance with all tax laws and reporting requirements.
- Maintain strong internal controls and documentation to support tax positions and audit readiness.
- Manage interactions with tax authorities and lead audits or inquiries.
- Partner with estate planning attorneys to design, refine, and maintain trust structures.
- Provide guidance on gift, estate, and generation‑skipping transfer tax matters.
- Track basis, distributions, and reporting for trusts and family partnerships.
Investment & Transaction Support
- Review and advise on tax consequences of investment opportunities, fund structures, carried interest, real estate transactions, and business acquisitions or dispositions.
- Coordinate tax due diligence for direct investments and private deals.
- Collaborate with investment managers to optimize after‑tax returns.
- Establish and maintain tax policies, procedures, calendars, and documentation frameworks.
- Manage relationships with external advisors, including CPAs, attorneys, and consultants.
- Present tax updates, planning opportunities, and recommendations to family members and senior leadership.
- Oversee and mentor internal tax staff or outsourced providers.
Qualifications:
- CPA or equivalent advanced tax credential required.
- 10+ years of progressive tax experience.
- Deep knowledge of individual, partnership, trust, gift/estate, and investment‑related taxation.
- Experience with multi‑entity, multi‑state, cross‑border, and alternative investment structures.
- Strong analytical, communication, and confidentiality skills.
- Demonstrated discretion, integrity, and service‑oriented mindset.
- Familiarity with philanthropic structures such as foundations or donor‑advised funds.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with legal, investment, and financial planning teams.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and providing clear, practical solutions.
- Prior experience in a family office, private wealth practice, or high‑net‑worth advisory environment preferred.
