Tax Director – Generalist; Partnership Focus

A growing professional services firm is seeking a Tax Director with a strong generalist tax background and deep partnership expertise to support and expand its Chicago tax practice. This role is designed for a senior tax professional who can serve as a technical leader, manage complex client relationships, and support both compliance and advisory needs across a diverse client base.

• Lead and review complex federal, state, and local tax compliance engagements for partnerships, S corporations, and closely held businesses
• Serve as a technical resource on partnership taxation, including allocations, basis, distributions, and restructuring matters
• Provide tax planning and advisory support across a broad range of industries
• Advise clients on entity structuring, transactions, and ongoing tax optimization
• Manage and grow key client relationships, acting as a primary point of contact
• Oversee engagement economics, timelines, staffing, and quality control
• Mentor and develop Managers, Seniors, and Associates within the tax practice
• Collaborate with firm leadership on practice development and client expansion initiatives
• Support business development efforts through client growth, referrals, and market presence

• 10–14+ years of public accounting tax experience
• Strong generalist background with significant partnership tax expertise
• CPA required
• Experience serving middle-market and closely held business clients
• Proven ability to manage complex tax matters and client relationships
• Demonstrated leadership and team management experience
• Familiarity with Illinois and multi-state tax considerations preferred
