Regulatory Compliance Specialist, Financial Crime
As a hybrid employee based at our Chicago Headquarters, you will lead complex investigations into potential money laundering, terrorist financing, and other illicit financial activities. Identify, assess, and report suspicious activity in accordance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions programs, and the USA PATRIOT Act using analytical techniques and regulatory knowledge. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external agencies to ensure timely and accurate reporting, support regulatory examinations, and contribute to the continuous enhancement of the credit union’s AML compliance framework.
Responsibilities- Lead complex investigations into potential money laundering and financial crime activities, ensure thorough analysis and documentation.
- Independently assess and resolve AML alerts and adverse media findings, escalating high‑risk cases in accordance with regulatory and internal protocols.
- Prepare and submit Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) to regulatory agencies, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Conduct in‑depth reviews of FinCEN 314(a) information requests and coordinate appropriate responses.
- Serve as a liaison with external financial institutions and law enforcement agencies regarding AML and OFAC‑related inquiries.
- Perform comprehensive account reviews in response to legal requests, ensuring alignment with BSA/AML and USA PATRIOT Act requirements.
- Monitor and analyze emerging trends in financial crime, sanctions evasion, and regulatory enforcement to inform investigative strategies.
- Provide expert guidance to internal stakeholders on managing high‑risk accounts and implementing effective AML controls.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of AML training programs, enhancing organizational awareness and compliance capabilities.
- Ensure investigative activities are conducted in strict adherence to the Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC regulations, and internal compliance policies.
- Act as a subject matter expert and maintain integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism in member‑related interactions and documentation.
Education
Minimum – 4 years Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field.
Years of Experience
Minimum – 3 years in anti‑money laundering compliance or related area.
In Lieu of Education
6 years in anti‑money laundering compliance or related area.
License/Certifications/Training
Preferred:
Association of Certified Anti‑Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS).
Typical hiring range: $52,300.00 to $81,300.00 Annually. Actual compensation will be determined using factors such as experience, skills, and knowledge.
