We are partnering with a Chicago-based private equity firm focused on investing in middle-market businesses across a variety of industries. The firm has a strong track record of value creation, disciplined investment execution, and long-term partnership with management teams. With continued fund growth and increasing portfolio activity, the firm is expanding its finance and accounting team.
Position OverviewThe Senior Accountant will play a key role in supporting fund and management company accounting, financial reporting, and operational execution. This individual will work closely with senior finance leadership and external service providers to ensure accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting across multiple investment vehicles.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with public accounting or fund accounting experience looking to transition into or grow within private equity.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual closes for private equity funds and related entities
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Support preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Assist with investor capital account reporting and allocations
- Review capital calls and distribution calculations
- Track investment activity, including acquisitions, exits, and portfolio company performance metrics
- Coordinate with external auditors during annual fund audits
- Assist with preparation of supporting documentation and audit schedules
- Support internal control documentation and process improvements
- Collaborate with the tax team and external tax advisors on fund-level reporting
- Partner with investment and portfolio operations teams on financial data requests
- Assist with cash management and treasury-related activities
- Support ad hoc analysis and special projects as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance related field required
- CPA strongly preferred or in progress
- 2–6 years of experience in public accounting and/or private equity, asset management, or fund accounting
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and partnership accounting concepts
- Experience with alternative investments or private fund structures preferred
- Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Based in downtown Chicago
