The Cost Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing the cost accounting functions, managing direct reports, ensuring accurate and timely accounting for inventory, and providing analysis to support and improve the business. This role involves handling complexities such as varying tariff rates from manufacturing companies, setting standard absorption rates for freight and duty, variance analysis, and cost capitalization. The Cost Accounting Manager will provide functional, technical, and process leadership to support the Controller in performing financial activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage and supervise direct reports, providing guidance and support to ensure accurate and efficient cost accounting processes.
  • Oversee the accounting for inventory, ensuring proper cost allocation and capitalization.
  • Analyze and manage tariff, freight, and duty rates and absorption for inventory sourced from various countries.
  • Lead variance analysis to identify and explain differences between actual costs and standard costs.
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Lead preparation and present cost reports and financial analysis to senior management, providing insights and recommendations for cost control and optimization.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including procurement, logistics, sales, and finance, to ensure accurate and timely cost accounting.
  • Monitor and analyze inventory levels, ensuring proper valuation and reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts related to cost accounting.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in cost accounting and inventory management.
  • Support audits, transfer pricing, and first sale declaration studies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Manages direct reports in the cost accounting department and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these individuals.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience
  • A passion for cycling and the outdoors!
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in a distribution or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, inventory management, and variance analysis.
  • Experience with international trade and supervisory experience preferred. JD Edwards Enterprise One or similar ERP experience required.
  • Consumer products or distribution industry experience preferred
  • CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software such as JD Edwards
Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
