Job DescriptionAs part of Allstate Investments' Private and Alternatives Investment Group ("PAIG"), the Portfolio Management & Analytics team's goal is to improve investment and portfolio management decisions through the use of data and analytics. The candidate will support the Portfolio Management & Analytics team across a range of activities, including quantitative analysis, project management, dashboard design and creation, and regular portfolio monitoring.
The candidate will spend a majority of their time supporting the Private Equity and Infrastructure teams but will have interactions with other teams within PAIG. This candidate will be regularly involved or lead material creation for investment committee meetings, portfolio review sessions, deal discussions, and special projects within PAIG.
This position is hybrid with a requirement to be in the office (RiverPoint / Chicago) ~3 days per week.
Key Responsibilities Portfolio Analytics- Lead complex analytical projects, workflow optimization, dashboard creation, factor analysis, and performance attribution
- Contribute to efforts to create comprehensive quanta mental models to identify opportunities to generate alpha within the PAIG group
- Prepare and present materials to senior Allstate Investments leadership based on the above, effectively communicating quantitative and qualitative insights
- Assist with establishment and continuous improvement of portfolio monitoring and portfolio management processes
- Leverage Python, SQL, and other analytical tools to conduct analyses to support portfolio management and construction hypotheses
- Assist with creation of quarterly and annual presentation materials, performance tracking, and other ad-hoc projects
- Leverage best-in-class AI tools to generate portfolio-level insights from unstructured and structured data sources
- Work closely with the Quant and Technology teams to develop agentic AI tools to generate alpha across the investment life cycle
- Develop insights and internal perspectives on the broader alternatives / private equity markets through third-party materials, industry conferences, and professional networks
- Work closely with the Private Equity group head and the head of Private Assets on deliverables with an executive audience
- Collaborate with Middle Office, Risk, and Quant teams across various projects and recurring work streams
- Participate in Investment Committee and Deal Committee meetings, and over time will be expected to meaningfully contribute to the conversations for underwriting and portfolio management discussions
- This job does not have supervisory duties
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Data Analysis, Business Analytics or a related field with strong academic performance
- 5-7 years of professional experience across a combination of potential industries, including private equity, private investments, fund of funds, financial/economic consulting, or internal portfolio analytics, with a focus on deal-level and portfolio-level quantitative and qualitative analysis
- MBA is a plus, but is not required for the job
- CFA or CAIA designation is preferred, but is not required for the job
- Can lead complex projects involving data and analytics, while demonstrating strong decision-making skills, attention to detail, ability to communicate effectively, ask questions, and provide creative solutions
- Ability to derive conclusions and stories from data and analyses, even when such data is incomplete, complex, and requires assumptions
- Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to be a reliable team player; ability to build trust and confidence through collaborations with a wide range of internal and external colleagues
- Ability to manage workflows, set appropriate goals and milestones, and oversee work from other team members
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate bi-directionally to both senior leadership and technical leads
