Fitch Ratings' U.S. and Canada Corporates Rating group is looking for a Senior Director to join our Utilities & Midstream team. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating corporate debt issuers while contributing to Fitch’s reputation for timely and insightful research that informs debt capital market decisions. This role entails managing a team of 2-3 analysts and also serving as a primary analyst in the U.S. and Canadian utilities and power sectors.
Qualitative credentials will weigh meaningfully in the selection of the candidate. A healthy sense of intellectual curiosity is critical, along with a willingness and ability to attack and explain topics of analytical complexity. Fitch is a team-oriented work environment, so excellent management, leadership, team development and communication skills are essential, as is a high productivity work-ethic and results oriented mindset.
- Have extensive corporate credit experience, with strong capabilities in financial analysis and modeling;
- Have a comprehensive understanding of fixed income/debt capital markets, with varied experience in both investment grade and leveraged finance a plus;
- Have a network of professional relationships within the debt capital markets and utilities, power and midstream sectors;
- Have proven success in nurturing talent and developing junior analysts.
- A platform to influence debt capital markets with forward-looking research and rating actions;
- An open culture that encourages the exchange of ideas and perspectives at all levels;
- The chance to lead, train, and mentor junior analysts.
- Cover a portfolio of 15-20 regulated utilities, power producers and renewable generation companies across investment-grade and speculative-grade ratings;
- Articulate Fitch’s credit views and sector outlook in meetings, conference calls, and industry round tables, as well as in written research, in an engaging and dynamic manner;
- Be a highly visible presence for the external stakeholders in the ratings process, including industry management teams, private equity sponsors, buy-side and sell-side analysts, and the media;
- Participate in the evaluation of other credits within Corporates, as well as other related credit groups;
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment in the Utilities and Midstream team, and contribute to the overall ethos of the U.S. and Canada Corporates rating team in a manner that prioritizes and advances Fitch’s strategic goals.
- 10+ years relevant experience in a capital markets and/or credit analysis role which must include some coverage or knowledge of the utilities, power and midstream sectors;
- A keen sense of intellectual curiosity and a commitment to continuous learning and a proven ability to dissect and articulate complex analytical topics;
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
- Experience managing, mentoring and developing people and teams and a collaborative approach to a team-based work environment;
- The agility to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities;
- A Bachelor's degree is essential; an MBA, other advanced degrees, or a CFA designation is a plus;
- Some travel is necessary, as is adherence to Fitch's Onsite Flex time in office policy.
FOR NEW YORK & CHICAGO ROLES ONLY:
Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $175,000 and $250,000 per year. Actual salaries will be determined on an individualized basis and may vary based on factors including but not limited to education, training, experience, past performance, and other job-related factors. Base pay is one part of Fitch’s total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, long-term incentives, and other benefits sponsored by Fitch.
