This is a strategic and highly visible leadership role where you will shape and embed the Operational Risk Framework (ORF), ensuring robust governance, effective controls, and strong regulatory compliance. You will act as a trusted partner to the business, balancing commercial priorities with sound risk management, while driving a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement.

This is an opportunity to influence at scale—engaging senior stakeholders, regulators, and cross-functional teams to strengthen risk practices and support the bank’s growth ambitions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead first-line operational risk management across Private and Retail Banking (Jersey and Falkland Islands)
  • Implement and embed the Operational Risk Framework (ORF) and ensure alignment with Group policies
  • Provide oversight across key risk areas including CDD/KYC, AML, sanctions, fraud, cross-border activity, and client protection
  • Act as the primary risk advisor to the business, supporting strategic decision-making
  • Own governance, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, documented, and reported in relevant forums
  • Drive robust risk controls, monitoring, and escalation processes
  • Lead the development of data analytics capabilities within Business Risk Management, using advanced analytics and data-driven insights to identify emerging risks, spot trends and root causes, and drive timely preventative action and escalation.
  • Prepare and contribute to risk reporting packs (e.g. NRFR, CRC, ERC) and senior stakeholder updates
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including regulators, auditors, and risk teams
  • Champion business continuity coordination and critical process assessments
  • Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships across teams and functions
  • Lead, coach, and develop talent, fostering a high-performing and inclusive culture
  • Promote the highest standards of ethics, conduct, and regulatory compliance
Skills and Qualifications
  • Proven experience in Business Risk Management or Operational Risk within banking or financial services
  • Strong understanding of Operational Risk Frameworks (ORF) and governance practices
  • Expertise in key risk domains including CDD/KYC, AML, sanctions, fraud risk, and regulatory compliance
  • Solid knowledge of Retail and/or Private Banking products and processes
  • Experience engaging with regulators, auditors, and senior stakeholders
  • Strong analytical mindset, with the ability to assess risk and drive effective mitigation strategies
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and challenge constructively
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, with experience building and developing teams
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, complex environment
  • Experience in governance, reporting, and risk frameworks across international or regional contexts
