Position Summary

The Senior Commercial Real Estate Lending Portfolio Manager is responsible for managing and monitoring a portfolio of commercial real estate loans to ensure credit quality, compliance, and profitability. This role involves underwriting, risk assessment, relationship management, and performance monitoring of loans, while collaborating with lenders and credit team to meet client and bank objectives.

At a High Level, This Role Is Responsible For
  • Assisting the Lenders to manage and monitor a diverse portfolio of commercial real estate loans.
  • Performing initial underwriting and credit analysis for new relationships.
  • Preparing pre‑screen packages and working with Lenders to present recommendations.
  • Ensuring compliance with bank policies and regulatory standards.
  • Reviewing draft annual reviews and covenant testing.
  • Collaborating with lenders and credit team to optimize client relationships.
  • Identifying and mitigating portfolio risks through proactive management.
  • Maintaining in-depth knowledge of local real estate markets and economic trends.
  • Supporting business development and cross‑selling opportunities.
What You’ll Do

As a Senior Portfolio Manager, you will report to the Executive Vice President, Head of Commercial Real Estate Lending and work closely alongside a dynamic commercial real estate lending team supporting a diverse and growing portfolio:

  • Portfolio Management
    • Oversee a portfolio of commercial real estate loans, ensuring adherence to loan terms, covenants, and regulatory requirements.
    • Review annual and periodic reviews, covenant testing, and modifications.
    • Monitor maturities, delinquencies, and risk ratings; develop mitigation plans for potential issues.
  • Underwriting & Credit Analysis
    • Perform detailed financial and collateral analysis for new loans.
    • Prepare pre‑screen packages on new opportunities, including cash flow analysis and risk assessments.
    • Review approval or modification reports for loan requests.
  • Compliance & Documentation
    • Ensure loan documentation accuracy and compliance with bank policies and regulatory standards (FDIC, OCC, state banking regulations).
    • Track and resolve documentation exceptions and covenant breaches.
  • Client Relationship Management
    • Maintain strong relationships with borrowers and internal stakeholders.
    • Identify cross‑selling opportunities and support business development initiatives.
  • Risk Management
    • Monitor portfolio performance and market trends to identify emerging risks.
    • Implement strategies to maintain asset quality and profitability.
Who You Are
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field.
  • 10+ years in commercial real estate lending, underwriting, or portfolio management.
  • Strong technical business skills including:
    • Proficiency in financial analysis, credit risk assessment, and loan structuring.
    • Familiarity with underwriting software (e.g., CoStar).
    • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and portfolio reporting.
  • Strong organizational and communication abilities to work closely with external customers as well as internally across all levels of the organization.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
  • Regulatory knowledge of FDIC, OCC, and state banking regulations would be helpful for this role.
