The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) within the Office ofthe Vice Chancellor for Research at University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) seeksan experienced Sponsored Awards Coordinator to support the financial administration of a complex portfolio of sponsored research awards. The Sponsored Awards Coordinator provides advanced post-award financial oversight and regulatory guidance to support the responsible stewardship of sponsored funding and ensure compliance with sponsor regulations and institutional policies.

Position Overview
The Sponsored Awards Coordinator manages key components ofthe post-award lifecycle for sponsored research projects, including financial compliance monitoring, sponsor financial reporting and award closeout. Working closely with principal investigators, departmental administrators and campus leadership, the coordinator applies deep knowledge offederal regulations, sponsor requirements and institutional policies to ensurethe compliant and efficient management of sponsored awards. This role requires the ability to analyze complex financial and compliance issues, interpret regulatory requirements and provide clear guidance to campus stakeholders managing sponsored research portfolios.
Key Responsibilities
Post-Award Financial Administration
- Conduct detailed reviews and financial analyses of sponsored project transactions to ensure compliance with federal regulations, sponsor terms and conditions and university policies governing allowable costs.
- Interpret sponsor regulations and institutional policies to advise departmental administrators and investigators on post-award administration.
- Serve as a subject matter resource to campus stakeholders regarding compliance requirements and financial management of sponsored awards.
- Assist with preparation and submission of interim and final financial reports for sponsors.
- Review financial activity to ensure accuracy and compliance prior to submission of sponsor reports.
- Support the financial closeout of sponsored awards, including reconciliation of accounts and preparation of financial worksheets.
- Work with campus departments to ensure prompt completion of sponsor closeout requirements.
- Assist with the development and implementation of post-award policies and procedures to enhance operational effectiveness and compliance.
- Participate in campus initiatives and committees focused on research administration process improvement, technology enhancements and operational efficiency.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Management or a related field
- Minimum two years of experience in grants and contracts administration
- Knowledge of federal regulations and sponsor terms governing research grants and contracts
- Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA) certification
- Experience supporting post-award administration in a research-intensive academic environment
- Knowledge of federal sponsors such as NIH, NSF and other major funding agencies
- Familiarity with sponsor payment systems and financial reporting platforms
