General Function
The Director, ABL Portfolio Management participates in the execution and achievement of Fifth Third Commercial Bank’s Asset Based Lending (ABL) strategic initiatives through day‑to‑day relationship management of a complex portfolio of ABL customers. The Director is the primary member of the ABL coverage team, managing all aspects of the ABL transaction, making recommendations on credit structures, pricing, and other transaction elements.
Directly accountable for managing a complex portfolio of accounts through financial statement reviews, collateral reporting, proactive monitoring, and partnership with Relationship Managers. Responsible for risk management, open communication of concerns, and adherence to policies and procedures.
Consistently identifies, assesses, manages, monitors, and reports risks of all types while operating within the bank’s risk appetite.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Manages the ongoing credit risk of a complex portfolio of ABL relationships and participates in portfolio meetings with senior management.
- Develops and maintains external relationships with assigned customers, including regular client meetings and business‑development calls to ensure customer satisfaction and retention.
- Attends client meetings independently and collaborates with managers on complex clients and workouts.
- Ensures continuous customer satisfaction through effective loan structure management and interface with line and support functions that service their accounts.
- Develops and maintains internal relationships with the coverage team, including Relationship Managers and Credit Risk Officers.
- Develops and executes appropriate strategies for problem clients without supervision.
- Maintains up‑to‑date trend cards, portfolio review forms, credit files, and legal files through departmental resources.
- Captures and documents credit decisions, conditions, and modifications.
- Identifies negative trends early and strategizes best solutions for the bank.
- Consistently evaluates and updates risk rating analysis, including overall ratings, probability of default (PD), and loss given default (LGD).
- Monitors timeliness of reporting, tickler information, and ensures accurate information for decision‑making.
- Makes continuous learning a priority to keep up with ever‑changing market dynamics.
- Understands the ABL legal environment, including secured transaction laws and creditor rights.
- Mentors junior team members, including Credit Analysts, Associates, and Principals.
- Performs additional job‑related duties as assigned.
- Provides employees with timely, candid, and constructive performance feedback.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting.
- 8 years of credit analysis and/or loan review experience in Commercial Banking.
- Minimum 6–7 years of experience in an Asset Based Lending environment (underwriting, field examination, or loan officer) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, technical procedures, and regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Advanced analytical skills, critical thinking, and verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional presence for client‑facing situations.
- Experience managing an advanced commercial client portfolio with a degree of complexity.
- Ability to partner with all deal stakeholders, including clients, relationship managers, and credit teams.
- Expertise in financial and risk analysis, including financial modeling.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving experience.
- Intermediate knowledge of Word and Excel spreadsheet software.
- Proficient with technology and ability to learn new applications.
Normal office environment with minimal exposure to dust, noise, or temperature variations; extended screen viewing. Some travel required.
SalaryDirector, ABL Portfolio Management – Total Base Pay Range: $96,500 – $207,500 USD annually.
