Special Situations Investment Banking (SSIB):

Capstone Partners' SSIB is an active, rapidly growing practice that provides investment banking and financial advisory services in complex situations -- both out-of-court and in chapter 11 reorganizations. The SSIB group, part of Capstone's Financial Advisory Services (FAS) team, is primarily a “company/debtor-side” advisor, with opportunistic representation of creditor and equity-holder constituencies. The group is led by seasoned professionals with decades of experience in special situations and restructuring transactions.

Role Overview
:

SSIB is seeking an experienced Analyst or Associate to join its Chicago, Boston or Dallas office. The role provides exposure to a range of special situation transaction opportunities, including debtor- and creditor-side transactions, both in- and out-of-court, involving distressed M&A, private financings, liability management exercises (LMEs), and restructurings.

Candidates must have a willingness to take on challenging projects and work with clients and colleagues on a broad set of projects. Analyst or Associates in SSIB will be expected to have direct interaction with clients and counter parties. Analyst or Associates also will support new business development, including preparation of pitch materials, idea generation, and development of a personal, long-term business development plan.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, analyze, and develop financial models for historical and projected financial information, including preparation and review of three-statement models, 13-week cash flow projections, debt capacity analyses, merger models, and valuation analyses.
  • Execute M&A, capital raise, and LME/Restructuring transactions, manage day-to-day process activities, and maintain strict deadlines.
  • Organize and prepare confidential information memoranda, management presentations, marketing pitches and other presentations.
  • Lead the maintenance and execution of counter party diligence activities for transactions.
  • Build relationships and maintain contact with clients, prospective clients, and professional advisors.
  • Supervising and mentoring other junior professionals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting, finance, or related discipline.
  • Analyst: 1+ years of investment banking experience, preferably involving special situations/corporate restructuring experience.
  • Associate: 3+ years of investment banking experience, including at least 2 years of special situation/corporate restructuring experience.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to develop and maintain financial models using Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • The ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience with special situations, restructuring, and bankruptcy transactions.
  • Motivated, creative, outgoing and possess strong skills in financial analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • FINRA Series 79 and 63 licenses (63 where required by state).
  • Experience with Pitchbook and CapIQ.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States – E‑Verify Employer.
