The Direct Tax Manager will lead the US income tax compliance, audits, planning, forecasting, and accounting processes for the organization. The role partners with senior leadership and manages a professional team.
Responsibilities- Lead a team of tax professionals in administering US income tax compliance, audits, planning, and forecasting.
- Manage the global income tax compliance calendar to ensure timely and accurate filings.
- Propose and enable strategies to reduce the corporate tax burden under direct taxes.
- Provide performance management, training, and guidance to team members; build bench for succession planning.
- Maintain relationships with external consultants and cross‑functional finance and business operations teams.
- Prepare and perform the initial review of income tax and franchise tax compliance, including federal and state consolidated returns, separate state returns, quarterly estimates, and annual extensions.
- Assist with annual global transfer pricing computations, benchmarking, documentation, and strategic modeling.
- Prepare/review quarterly and annual tax provision components, including book‑tax differences and footnote disclosures.
- Review effective tax rate calculations and cash tax projections for financial planning.
- Coordinate federal and state income tax audits, prepare and review audit responses, and communicate audit progression to management.
- Research tax issues and communicate conclusions through written technical memos.
- Monitor new and pending US tax legislation and assess impacts.
- Ensure internal controls are followed and documented.
- Champion AI fluency: model curiosity, encourage responsible AI adoption, and guide team in AI tools and practices.
- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of direct tax experience, preferably in a global corporate tax or public accounting environment.
- At least 2 years of experience leading others, directly or indirectly.
- Strong knowledge of ASC 740 and US GAAP accounting for income tax.
- Experience with AI‑enabled tools such as Power BI or Alteryx for tax provision and compliance improvement.
- Strong analytical, research, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Interest in advanced tax concepts (GILTI, FTC, FDII, BEAT) and ability to learn new rules.
- Strategic mindset, ability to drive change, and coach high‑performing teams.
- Project management skills: balancing multiple priorities, adapting to changing needs, paying attention to detail, and meeting deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Pay range: $114,000 – $158,800 depending on experience and skill set. Salary may be subject to geographic differentials. Annual bonus target of 10% subject to terms and conditions of the plan.
