As a Managing Director/Business Development Officer within PNC’s Sponsor Coverage organization, you will be based in Chicago, IL.

PNC Business Credit is a leading provider of flexible financing solutions for private equity firms, offering private credit, cash flow revolvers, Term Loan A, software/ARR lending, ABL, BSL, and other senior secured products. The Managing Director will originate and lead debt financing transactions with top‑tier private equity clients and oversee the full investment lifecycle—from sourcing and underwriting through documentation and closing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead coverage and relationship management of Chicago‑based PE firms to source, qualify, and structure new financing opportunities for PE-backed deals.
  • Maintain relationships with direct lending firms for partnership and co‑lend opportunities.
  • Partner closely with product groups (Private Credit, Capital Markets, Technology Finance/ARR, ABL, Asset‑backed securities, etc.).
  • Analyze and qualify initial deal opportunities, assess fit, and recommend pursuit of transactions.
  • Prepare and present screening materials, credit analyses, and term‑sheet recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Deliver, pitch, and negotiate term sheets; lead negotiations of commercial and legal terms.
  • Manage due diligence work streams across underwriting, legal, and syndication.
  • Guide junior bankers in evaluating, structuring, and screening opportunities.
  • Maintain market intelligence on sponsor activity, M&A trends, and competitive dynamics.
  • Represent PNC Business Credit at sponsor meetings, conferences, and industry events.
  • Manage pipeline and activity within the CRM platform.
  • Prospect, maintain, and leverage a highly developed network within the assigned market area.
  • Perform complex credit structuring and analyze financial information to determine if the client’s financing requirements meet PNC parameters.
  • Manage risk/return and actively identify and mitigate regulatory, reputational, operational, and credit risks.
  • Develop comprehensive financing packages structured to meet client needs, drive client acceptance, and deepen share of wallet.
  • Coordinate credit underwriting, due diligence, and loan documentation with internal and external partners.
Qualifications
  • University or college degree; higher‑level education such as a Master’s or PhD is desirable.
  • 8+ years of industry experience in private equity or credit finance.
  • Proven experience in originating and structuring debt financing for private equity clients.
  • Strong knowledge of private credit, capital markets, technology finance/ARR, ABL, and asset‑backed securities.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, structure, and negotiate complex financial transactions.
  • Excellent communication, prospecting, and customer‑experience skills.
  • Ability to manage risk/return and mitigate regulatory, reputational, operational, and credit risks.
  • Familiarity with credit underwriting, due diligence, and loan documentation processes.
  • Strong analytical, financial modeling, and valuation skills.
