Overview
We are currently seeking an Assistant Portfolio Manager (APM) to work within our portfolio management group. The individual will be an integral part of a team supporting the investment process for numerous insurance clients. This full-time position is located in downtown Chicago with some flexibility to work remotely under company policy.
Job SummaryThe APM will work with several Portfolio Managers and will be staffed on specific life, property & casualty and health insurance relationships. You will be involved in all aspects of the investment process and will play a crucial role in delivering on AAM’s commitment to excellent client service and strong investment performance. While the majority of your work will center around public investment‑grade fixed income, you will also gain experience in other asset classes.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Implement portfolio strategy under the direction of Portfolio Managers
- Work directly with AAM’s clients on multiple portfolio management teams, fielding inquiries and coordinating delivery of services and reporting
- Develop market‑based knowledge with support from AAM investment professionals and participation in the investment process
- Aid in growing the firm by supporting AAM’s Sales and Marketing groups
- Prepare periodic client investment reports and support our accounting staff
- Monitor portfolio risk positioning, compliance and performance
- Learn about our clients, their products and the insurance industry
- Identify opportunities to assist with improving organizational efficiency alongside other APMs and investment professionals
- Actively seek additional roles/responsibilities to grow professionally
- Internally: portfolio managers, research analysts, traders, sector specialists, operational/investment accounting teams and administrative personnel
- Externally: clients, subadvisors, consultants, custodians and service providers
- 1 to 3 years of accounting, finance, banking or investment experience
- College degree in finance, accounting, math, economics, computer science or a related field
- High level of proficiency in Excel
- Comfort with and ability to analyze large sets of data
- Intellectual curiosity and an ability to independently problem‑solve
- Demonstrated interest in capital markets
- Willingness to step outside of set job responsibilities to help the team
- Comfortable interacting with clients and public speaking
- Desire to enroll in the CFA Program, with preference for having registered for, or passed, Level I exam
- Ability and willingness to reevaluate processes to introduce automation and improve efficiency

The annual salary range is $70,000 to a maximum of $90,000. AAM also provides a discretionary bonus program based on firm and employee performance.
