Valuations Analyst – Private Equity

Our client, a highly-regarded private equity firm based in Chicago, is seeking an analytical, hands-on Valuations Analyst for its Finance & Operations team. This role owns the valuation process for a diverse portfolio of private assets, leveraging complex financial modeling to deliver institutional-grade insights for quarterly reporting, investor relations, and audit compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain sophisticated valuation models from scratch using Discounted Cash Flow (DCF), Comparable Companies, and Precedent Transactions methods.
  • Analyze quarterly financial data, operational metrics, and KPIs of portfolio companies to assess performance and valuation impacts.
  • Track macroeconomic trends, industry benchmarks, and public market multiples to support valuation assumptions.
  • Partner closely with deal teams, senior leadership, and external auditors to justify valuation methodologies and navigate complex accounting treatments.
  • Prepare clear, concise valuation memos and presentation decks for the Valuation Committee and institutional investors.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • 1–3 years of experience in valuation advisory (Big 4 or independent valuation firms), investment banking, or a dedicated private equity valuations role.
  • Exceptional financial modeling skills. Mastery of Excel is non-negotiable; familiarity with Capital IQ, Bloomberg, or Pitch Book is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance principles, accounting standards (ASC 820 / IFRS 13), and complex capital structures.
  • Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and able to defend valuation conclusions under rigorous audit scrutiny.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related quantitative field. Progress toward a CFA or ASA designation is a significant plus.
Preferred
  • Prior experience in a private equity or alternative asset management environment.
  • Experience with alternative asset valuations.
  • CFA designation, or progress towards CFA, ASA, or ABV certification.
