Job Title: Senior Credit Analyst, Commercial Lending

Location: Burling Bank in Chicago’s Loop

Burling Bank is seeking a credit analyst to take on a meaningful role within our lending function. This position is responsible for underwriting commercial loans, managing portfolio quality, and general support of the Bank’s lending efforts. The role also offers the opportunity to help build out an internal credit training program, enhance underwriting and portfolio management procedures with a high degree of independence, and grow into a commercial lender over time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite new and renewing commercial loan requests, including spreading financial statements, projecting cash flow, evaluating collateral, and preparing written credit memoranda for presentation to loan committee.
  • Manage ongoing portfolio quality through annual reviews, covenant tracking, financial statement monitoring, risk rating assessments, and proactive identification of emerging credit issues.
  • Serve as a direct point of contact for borrowers on credit-related matters, including financial reporting requests, covenant compliance, and ongoing relationship communication.
  • Contribute to the development and ongoing administration of an internal credit training program, including curriculum design, training materials, and mentorship of junior staff.
  • Take initiative to identify and solve problems independently, recommending and implementing enhancements to underwriting standards, credit policies, portfolio management procedures, and internal reporting.
  • Partner with commercial lenders and senior management on structuring, pricing, and risk assessment of new opportunities, with a path toward direct client and business development responsibilities over time.
  • Participate in loan committee, problem loan reviews, and other credit governance meetings as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with loan operations, BSA/AML, and finance teams to ensure accurate booking, documentation, and reporting of credit exposures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to a range of commercial lending structures, including C&I, owner-occupied and investment CRE, ABL, and specialty lending.
  • Comfort serving as a direct point of contact for clients and engaging in professional, substantive communication on credit matters.
  • Interest in stepping beyond pure analysis into business development, client relationships, and direct commercial lending responsibilities.
  • Comfort working in a small, lean environment where individual judgment, initiative, and ownership matter more than process.
  • Experience using AI tools in a professional setting and a willingness to apply them thoughtfully to the work.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, or a related field.
  • Credit training completed through a formal bank credit program.
  • 3+ years of experience in commercial credit analysis, underwriting, or portfolio management at a bank or comparable lending institution.
  • Working knowledge of credit risk principles, loan documentation, and commercial lending regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, well-supported credit memoranda and present recommendations to credit committee.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, including proficiency with spreadsheet-based financial analysis and projection work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling confidential financial information.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.
  • Full-time, in‑office position at Burling Bank’s office in Chicago.
