Position SummaryThe Head of Client Service Oversight & Governance for Northern Trust Asset Management, Global Institutional Client Group will lead the effort to actively manage and monitor client‑related risks, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies and client agreements. This individual will build a team that consistently reviews, oversees, and governs client onboarding and ongoing servicing activities while providing training to the broader client‑facing team.
By balancing cross‑functional perspectives and liaising with clients, partners, and servicing teams, the role aims to reduce risk to the clients and the business while enhancing the value‑added client experience, including first‑line responsibilities from the NT RCE program implementation.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Build a robust client oversight and governance function, including:
- Coordinate the lifecycle of onboarding and off‑boarding accounts: operational set‑up, collection of legal/account documentation, KYC compliance, vendor and third‑party relationships, and internal dashboard for metric reporting.
- Operationalize Client Service:
- Document and streamline workflows for account onboarding and servicing across cross‑functional teams.
- Leverage systems to automate processes where applicable.
- Evolve the operating model to meet changing client needs.
- Develop and manage tools to track client events, inquiries, and servicing issues, ensuring timely escalation.
- Governance:
- Partner across the organization to align First Line of Defense with broader oversight and compliance functions.
- Approve client onboarding, including KYC responsibilities.
- Act as Program Manager for client oversight and governance, building policies and training partners.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies, standards and procedures.
- Data Management:
- Align the oversight function with other business units to capture and monitor client data, establishing a single‑source client database.
- Document and build a client account database with a single source repository for documentation across systems, monitoring post‑onboarding changes.
- Leadership:
- Manage a team of client oversight and governance managers, including RCE.
- Serve as liaison across teams, advising relationship management on client life cycles and complex matters.
- Liaise with internal and external auditors, oversee client business continuity plans and resiliency development.
- Lead additional ad‑hoc assignments and projects as needed.
- Expertise in compliance regulations related to asset management.
- Proven experience building and overseeing asset management control functions.
- In‑depth understanding of client/vehicle/investment nuances in onboarding and ongoing servicing.
- Strong consultative skills: client communication, analytics, influencing, facilitation and consensus building.
- Excellent project management skills for organizing teams and delivering on time.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop materials and present to executive audiences.
- Ability to navigate the organization and influence internal partnerships for exceptional client servicing.
- Knowledge of Northern Trust’s global business structure and various segments.
- Comfort dealing with ambiguity and operating in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in the asset management industry and product knowledge. Financial services experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA and/or CFA strongly preferred.
$164, USD. Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay.
