Portfolio Manager, Power Markets

Grid Stor develops, constructs, and operates battery energy storage projects that improve grid reliability and power economic growth across North America. Backed by Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Grid Stor today manages a pipeline of over 3 GW of battery storage projects in later-stage development, active construction, and commercial operations. We work as one team, share learnings across functions, and outperform in how we deliver, optimize, and operate.

Our reliability earns trust with customers, partners, and investors—and sets us apart. Grid Stor is headquartered in Portland, Oregon, with regional offices in Denver, Colorado and Los Angeles, California. We offer competitive compensation and a wide selection of benefits, including unlimited paid time off.

Role Summary

Grid Stor is seeking a Portfolio Manager, Power Markets to own the commercial performance of our operating battery energy storage fleet. This role sits at the nexus between market execution, settlements, and asset performance: ensuring our assets are scheduled and optimized effectively, our revenues are measured and reconciled accurately, and our hedges and bilateral positions are implemented and tracked correctly. The successful candidate will manage execution and optimization of a defined portfolio, coordinating with third-party optimization, our QSE/scheduling counter parties, and internal Operations and Asset Management teams, while building the settlements, performance measurement, and hedge-tracking infrastructure that a growing commercial platform requires.

As Grid Stor's footprint and market participation mature, the candidate will help develop and enable the company's hedging capability, from cash and prompt products through term horizons of up to two years. The role works daily alongside our forecasting, risk, structuring and data teams within the Commercial organization. Must be Central Time-located, preferably Houston or Chicago. Expected time allocation is approximately 40% trading and markets, 20% performance measurement, 20% pricing and structuring, 10% operations coordination, and 10% other commercial support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate daily Day-Ahead, Real-Time, and Ancillary Services market participation for the operating fleet in CAISO and ERCOT, in coordination with third-party optimization platforms, QSE/scheduling entities, and internal forecasts.
  • Help develop and enable hedging strategies for the portfolio as markets and capabilities mature, from cash and balance-of-month products out to two-year term horizons, consistent with company risk policies.
  • Implement, track, and maintain hedges and bilateral structures in our systems of record, ensuring positions, terms, and exposures are represented accurately.
  • Monitor market fundamentals, ISO rule changes, and BESS participation model developments (e.g., real-time co-optimization) and assess commercial impact to the fleet.
  • Recommend refinements to bidding parameters and operating strategies based on observed performance, market design knowledge, and BESS technology constraints.
  • Establish and maintain the fleet's commercial performance measurement process: realized revenue vs. forecast, performance vs. third-party optimizer benchmarks, and variance attribution.
  • Deliver recurring performance reporting to Commercial, Asset Management, and leadership, and drive the continuous-improvement loop back into bidding and dispatch.
  • Support Finance in revenue recognition, accrual accuracy, and month-end close for market activities.
  • Support evaluation of new hedging, tolling, and bilateral opportunities with pricing analysis, settlement modeling, and exposure quantification, including structuring views on tenor, product, and venue.
  • Coordinate hedge settlement mechanics, counter party invoicing inputs, and delivery obligations with Finance and Mid-Office.
  • Work with Analytics and the Risk Committee to improve risk metrics and the representation of assets and hedges in management systems.
  • Support Business Development and Origination with views on ISO protocols, settlement mechanics, and commercial performance of the operating fleet.
  • Manage award…
