Mission

CDPH works with communities and partners to create an equitable, safe, resilient and Healthy Chicago.

Under direction, supervises and/or participates in the preparation, review, and administration of government grants for a variety of departmental or City-wide programs, and performs related duties as required

Essential Duties
  • Coordinates the grant application phase (including developing grant proposals, packaging, and submission of proposals for internal approval, and submission to funding agencies), meets with program directors to discuss financial needs, and reviews programmatic and budgetary plans received from the program directors.
  • Supports the development and implementation of standardized operating procedures for the pre- and post-award processes.
  • Reviews submitted proposals and post-award grant amendments for accuracy, completeness and compliance with grant requirements and federal rules and regulations.
  • Responds to inquiries from funders and provides necessary documentation.
  • Provides trainings and workshops, and ensures staff receive needed guidance/technical assistance, training, and support in grant proposal development, management, and compliance/uniform guidance (2 CFR 200).
  • Works with program staff to create funding plans that support the work of Healthy Chicago (citywide plan for health equity) and searches for grant opportunities that match those plans.
  • Prepares all grant-related City Council appropriation ordinances for the department in conjunction with the Office of Budget and Management and coordinates departmental representation at related Council and Public Hearings.
  • Manages grant staff and provide direct supervision, as well as ongoing development and training.
  • Supports the preparation of management reports on section's work accomplishments.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Eight (8) years of work experience in grants administration, OR
  • Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a directly related field, PLUS six (6) years of work experience in grants administration, OR
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a directly related field, PLUS four (4) years of work experience in grants administration, OR
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree or higher in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a directly related field, PLUS three (3) years of work experience in grants administration

Selection Requirements

This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and Excel exercise / skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.

Desired Skills
  • Extensive knowledge of federal rules and regulations (2 CFR 200)
  • Previous experience coordinating and monitoring the implementation of programs within regulatory guidelines.
  • Previous experience in a position which requires preparing reports, budgets, and grant applications.
  • Previous project management experience.
  • Expert Proficiency level with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel computer software applications.
