Assistant Stylist

General Summary & Scope

The Assistant Stylist is responsible for engaging guests, consulting on hair care needs, and recommending products and services. This temporary role prepares talent for future stylist positions and includes mentorship by an Elite or Master Stylist during the first three months, focusing on performance, people, and processes. After months 4‑6, the Assistant will begin servicing guests independently and continue to support the salon operation.

• Deliver exceptional guest service and help the store meet retail and service sales goals.
• Support the mentor stylist in achieving sales and productivity targets for hair services and products (add‑on recommendations, shampoo & treatment process, blowouts, color applications, foils, sanitation, pre‑booking, retail recommendations).
• After month three, perform hair services including hair design, haircuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, up‑dos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup, brow services, and ear piercing (where applicable).
• Perform product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance guest experience.
• Support in‑store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
• Stay informed on industry trends, products, and ingredients.
• Maintain reliable and punctual attendance.

• Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate retail/service recommendations.
• Serve all guests, including walk‑ins, efficiently under mentorship.
• Collaborate with skin therapists and retail staff to provide a total‑store experience.
• Build professional peer and brand partner relationships to deliver outstanding service.
• Encourage participation in the guest loyalty program and Ulta Beauty app.

• Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty policies and standards.
• Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures before, during, and after services.
• Follow established service protocols to ensure consistency.
• Use booking and client systems to schedule future services and events.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager.
• Maintain store operational standards, including cleanliness of salon, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, and break areas.
• Attend mandatory trainings and meetings.
• Adhere to dress code and loss‑prevention practices.
• Perform other operational tasks as directed.

• Frequent mobility, bending, reaching, twisting, lifting up to 10 lb.
• Extended standing periods.
• Continuous coordination of objects.
• Frequent use of computer, phone, and office supplies.

• Cosmetology license.
• Basic understanding of salon techniques (haircutting, coloring, lightening, styling, extensions, makeup, brow services, ear piercing).
• Basic understanding of equipment, chemicals, and product lines.
• Ability to recommend, sell pro hair care and makeup products.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.

• Work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Pay range: $16.20 - $19.00 per hour. Pay determined by education, qualifications, experience, shift, location, and business needs. Overtime pay and tips may apply.
