Patient Access Manager at Insight Health Systems (Insight Hospital and Medical Center – Chicago, Bronzeville area)
We are seeking an experienced manager to oversee the registration area, drive operational efficiencies, and ensure a high level of customer service. The role balances daily staff management with revenue cycle oversight and system improvements.
Pay RangeBase: $65,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
Actual pay will be based on skills and experience.

Job SummaryAs Manager, Patient Access, you will manage the registration process, ensure staff competency, maintain compliance, and support the revenue cycle to sustain financial stability.
Duties and Responsibilities- Manage department work schedules for registration staff to ensure 24/7 coverage.
- Conduct random audits of staff to maintain quality and government compliance.
- Hire and train new staff, providing one‑on‑one onboarding.
- Ensure pre‑certification requirements are met before patient service.
- Complete performance evaluations for Admitting Lead and Registrar positions.
- Educate staff on procedural changes and hold monthly meetings.
- Develop and implement processes for high‑quality outcomes.
- Monitor staff to ensure excellent customer service for patients and families.
- Communicate effectively with managers, directors, physicians, and staff.
- Participate in committees and task teams to improve processes.
- Maintain current knowledge of self‑pay screening requirements.
- Keep Insight’s HMO/PPO contract information up to date.
- Manage the registration budget, keeping it within 2% of the operating budget.
- Stay current with registration best practices.
- Submit monthly productivity reports to the Revenue Cycle Director.
- Monitor and evaluate wait times, developing procedures to decrease them.
- Understand bed placement requirements per nursing criteria.
- Train staff during disaster drills to ensure timely patient care.
- Develop inter‑ and intra‑departmental systems to promote efficient patient flow.
- Formulate, distribute, and revise policy and procedure documents.
- Conduct system testing issue (STI) upgrades to the Star Database.
- Maintain knowledge of the practice management system basics.
- Update the AMP work list and review productivity with staff.
- Track top five billing errors and devise action plans to reduce registration errors.
- Update ABN profiles to meet Medicare requirements.
- Perform other assigned duties as necessary.
- High School Diploma required;
Bachelor’s Degree preferred. - Three years’ experience in Patient Access/registration.
- Five to eight years of management or supervisory experience in Patient Access, Pre‑Certification/Pre‑Registration, or Revenue Cycle.
- Strong operational background.
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with Insurance Eligibility Online Systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology.
- Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent phone and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and follow up on issues.
- Dedicated to providing exceptional customer service.
