Crossroads Speech and Occupational Therapy provides high-quality speech and language therapy and occupational therapy to children and adults in Chicago and the surrounding western, northern, and North Shore suburbs. Our therapists are experienced, dedicated, and passionate about helping their clients achieve their full potential.

A Speech Therapist, also known as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), evaluates, diagnoses, and treats individuals with speech, language, voice, communication, and swallowing disorders. They work with patients of all ages to improve communication skills and overall quality of life.

Responsibilities
  • Assess and diagnose speech, language, cognitive-communication
    , and swallowing disorders
    .
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
  • Provide direct therapeutic interventions to improve articulation, fluency, voice, language comprehension, expression, and swallowing.
  • Teach clients exercises to strengthen muscles used in speech and swallowing.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare or education professionals (e.g., doctors, teachers, occupational therapists).
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with legal and professional standards.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on strategies to improve communication and manage disorders.
  • Use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) methods when needed.
  • Stay current on best practices, research, and licensing requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • State licensure or certification (varies by region).
  • Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association), or working toward it.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  • Patience and adaptability when working with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with specific populations (e.g., children with autism, stroke survivors).
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities.
  • Familiarity with speech therapy software and tools.
Work Environments
  • Schools (K–12 or early intervention programs)
