Pay Range: $49.53 - $78.02 per hour

The Pharmacist is responsible for assuring the effective and efficient provision of pharmaceutical care services. Perform all duties necessary to ensure the coordinated, safe, and rational delivery of pharmacy services and programs. These responsibilities include the accurate preparation and dispensing of prescription medications and compounded preparations within a community pharmacy setting. Oversees the activities of pharmacy residents, students, and supportive personnel as assigned.
Reports directly to the immediate supervisor of the assigned practice area. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
- Responsible for the direct supervision of the pharmacy staff on duty.
- Evaluates physicians’ orders for therapeutic appropriateness, proper dosing, drug interactions, drug allergies, route of administration, contraindications, and therapeutic redundancies.
- Verifies orders in a timely manner and, if necessary, clarifies orders through direct and prompt contact with the prescriber or designated practitioner.
- Workflow may include order entry, prescription dispensing, compounding, verification, counseling, register transactions, inventory management, and other operational or customer service-related tasks.
- Oversees and performs medication compounding as required.
- Provides general and/or patient-specific drug information as required to other healthcare professionals. When appropriate, makes recommendations for cost-effective alternatives to medication orders.
- Performs prescription and over-the-counter patient consultations to promote safe and effective medication use and support optimal patient outcomes.
- Completes daily operational and financial reporting.
- Provides clear and specific handoff communications to the next provider of care whenever necessary.
- Engages in the medication error reporting program to identify, document, and prevent errors, supporting patient safety and continuous improvement in pharmacy practice.
- Identifies medication safety issues and takes steps to make corrections or escalates system improvement suggestions to the appropriate personnel.
- Regularly reviews pharmacy communications to stay informed of policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings as required.
- Provides general supervision for technical support in their assigned operational area. Monitors and coordinates workflow with established delivery schedules.
- Maintains clinical skills, knowledge, and professional competence to ensure safe and effective pharmacy practice.
- Remains compliant and up to date on all related rules and regulations.
- Performs other tasks or special projects as assigned by management.
- Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy and/or Pharm
D. - Licensed or eligible for licensure in Illinois.
- Effective verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Strong work ethic with demonstrated leadership activities or potential for developing leadership behavior.
- Must be able to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, including within the Department of Pharmacy.
