Position: Mammography Radiographer- Full Time (Sign on Bonus Offered)

The Mammography Radiographer performs general mammography imaging procedures to generate information necessary for diagnosis and subsequent treatment of outpatients, in accordance with industry standards, department protocols, and hospital policies.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluates the request for procedures and assesses the patient to determine the appropriate procedure protocol and method of application.
  • Appropriately employs imaging systems, accessory devices, and patient positioning techniques to generate mammography images.
  • Cares for the patient throughout the procedure according to department and hospital standards of nursing care, age-specific sensitivities, and a patient-first approach.
  • Evaluates the resultant images against industry standards and takes corrective action if needed.
  • Performs preliminary interpretation by applying independent judgment, then customizes the procedure accordingly and uses this knowledge to expedite intervention by the radiologist if necessary.
  • Notifies physicians as required of changes in the condition of patients or regarding unique imaging characteristics.
  • Assists the radiologist in the performance of interventional procedures; prepares sterile trays and procedure-specific equipment.
  • Completes and maintains the medical record, including film and related paperwork.
  • Provides patient education in written or verbal form prior to, during, and after the procedure to reduce anxiety and enhance comfort and tolerance.
  • Performs imaging procedures with safe radiation practices as determined by the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to limit exposure.
  • Performs Quality Control testing as assigned in accordance with FDA/ACR recommendations; notifies supervisor of out-of-control results and closes rooms or processors as required in the absence of a supervisor.
Additional Functions
  • Documents mammography imaging procedures manually and/or electronically to ensure correct charging, patient and film file tracking.
  • Monitors stock of supplies in imaging rooms to ensure regular availability, with timely reordering and maintenance of a clean and orderly environment.
  • Reports equipment failures or irregularities to supervisory and/or quality control personnel as soon as possible.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduation from a hospital-based two-year program in Radiologic Technology or an Associate Degree in Radiology Technology.
  • Mammography 40 hours of advanced training in an MQSA-approved program and 250 supervised Mammography exams.
  • IDNS licensed
  • ARRT registered in Radiography (R)
  • ARRT registered in Radiography Mammography within 12 months of hire date
  • Clinical and technical competency in Mammography to meet MQSA requirements
  • CPR – Basic Life Support certification through American Heart Association

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three or more years of experience
Schedule

8-10 hour shifts, including rotating weekends.

Sign-on Bonus Eligibility: Internal employees and rehires who left Northwestern Medicine within 1 year are not eligible for the sign-on bonus. Exception: new graduate internal employees seeking their first licensed clinical position at NM may be eligible depending on job family.
