Located in the heart of the Low country in South Carolina, Coastal Oaks Recovery is a 72‑bed substance‑use treatment center serving adults aged eighteen and older. Nestled on five serene acres near the coastal waters and wetlands of Port Royal, Coastal Oaks provides a tranquil environment for individuals suffering from addiction to stabilize and embark on their journey toward recovery and wellness.

At Coastal Oaks Recovery, we offer medically monitored detoxification under the direct care of physicians and nurses, supported by a multidisciplinary treatment team. In addition to withdrawal management, our residential treatment services provide a safe and structured environment for 30 to 45 days, ensuring that each patient builds a solid foundation of recovery skills prior to discharge.

Our evidence‑based programming includes group therapy, individual counseling, family programming, and specialized care tailored to meet individual needs. With a holistic and experiential approach, we emphasize safety, collaboration, and a patient‑first culture that nurtures recovery and wellness for both patients and staff.

Position Purpose

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) assists in the planning and implementation of patient care within designated programs and administers medications according to established protocols. The LPN provides care to adults and geriatric patients, supporting their recovery and maintaining the highest standards of patient‑centered care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Patient Care and Medication Administration
  • Administer prescribed medications and nursing treatments to patients in accordance with treatment plans.
  • Observe patient behavior and record observations and progress in patient records.
  • Provide education on health maintenance, grooming, and medication management through individual or group sessions.
  • Monitor and respond to medication‑related issues, including side effects and laboratory results.
Therapeutic Interventions
  • Act as a role model, shaping effective social and personal values in patient interactions.
  • Assist in maintaining excellent standards of patient care and managing inappropriate patient behavior.
  • Participate in therapeutic activities, including physical therapy programs and recreational sessions.
  • Use verbal and non‑verbal techniques to establish therapeutic relationships and facilitate patient engagement.
Collaboration and Training
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new staff and Mental Health Technicians (MHTs).
  • Promote teamwork and maintain a flexible and cooperative attitude in interactions with staff members.
Compliance and Documentation
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of nursing care, medication administration, and patient progress.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and facility policies regarding patient confidentiality.
  • Safeguard the proper use and storage of medical supplies and equipment.
Requirements

Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in nursing procedures and medication administration.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients and team members.
  • Ability to remain calm and exercise good judgment in emergencies or high‑stress situations.
  • Knowledge of pharmacology, safety standards, and emergency care procedures.
  • Capability to educate and promote activities of daily living (ADLs) tailored to patients’ physiological needs.
Education and Experience
  • Required
    :
    Current South Carolina license as an LPN.
  • Preferred
    :
    One year of experience in psychiatric, chemical dependency, or eating disorder settings.
  • Documented completion of a pharmacology course and/or examination.
Licensure/Certification
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Additional certifications in psychiatric or addiction nursing are preferred.
