Overnight Pharmacy Technician II Shift: 9:30 PM – 8:30 AM.

Responsibilities

Note:
The following items reflect key responsibilities as described in the job description.

  • Respond immediately to STAT and NOW medication requests; STAT deliveries within 15 minutes and NOW deliveries within 30 minutes.
  • Fill first-dose medications and support urgent clinical needs.
  • Manage Omnicell and Med Carousel inventory, including accurate quantity updates and daily stock rotation.
  • Prepare and distribute medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Perform sterile compounding (IV preparation) according to USP 797/800 standards (training will be provided if needed).
  • Operate and maintain automated dispensing systems (e.g., Omnicell) including restocking and troubleshooting.
  • Deliver medications and supplies to nursing units and other patient care areas.
  • Manage inventory by checking expiration dates, performing stock rotation, and placing restocking orders.
  • Support accurate medication charging, credits, and documentation processes.
  • Maintain cleanroom and pharmacy work areas in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assist pharmacists with medication reconciliation and medication history collection (if applicable).
Job Summary

Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our inpatient pharmacy team. This technician will support the preparation, distribution, and inventory management of medications to ensure safe and efficient patient care. The role requires collaboration with pharmacists and other healthcare team members to maintain pharmacy operations and uphold quality standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Active Illinois Pharmacy Technician License in good standing. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) – PTCB certification required.
  • Hospital pharmacy experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and follow standard operating procedures.
Schedule Requirements

Schedule Requirements:

  • Full-time position (40 hours per week).
  • Must be available to rotate between day, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts based on department needs. Participation in the pharmacy weekend/holiday rotation schedule required.
Job Requirements

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program or 500 hours of pharmacy technician experience prior to 1/24/2024.

MINIMUM

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with IV mixtures and unit dose drug distribution. (Is this experience that a new grad would have? If not, we should indicate this is preferred.)

KNOWLEDGE &

SKILLS:

  • Proficient computer skills and ability to type 30 words per minute.
  • Good writing and verbal communication skills.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Illinois Pharmacy Technician license required.
  • If license was issued after 1/1/2008, Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) is required within two years of licensure. Once certified, active certification must be maintained. Techs with student designation on their license are exempt from this requirement.
