SummaryUnder direction of the Operations Manager, the Perioperative Scheduler performs support services to coordinate scheduling patients for surgery. The Scheduler acts as liaison between patients, department staff, and RUMC OR staff teams, exemplifying the Rush mission, vision, and values while adhering to Rush policies and procedures.
Required Job Qualifications- High School Diploma.
- Manual dexterity, effective communication, precision and accuracy.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
Epic software knowledge is an advantage. - Ability to communicate well with patients and all levels of staff.
- Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Works well individually and as part of a team.
- Certified Medical Assistant experience.
- Three years of medical office experience.
- Experience obtaining prior authorizations & knowledge of insurance authorization processes.
- Schedules, reschedules, or cancels surgical appointments.
- Communicates with all surgical candidates to set up appointments, provide pre‑operative information, inform patients of surgical requirement timelines, and answer insurance-related questions.
- Coordinates surgical scheduling information flow into and out of the clinic.
- Maintains direct communication with key OR staff.
- Contacts outside agencies to retrieve insurance pre‑authorization and other needed medical documentation.
- Keeps open lines of communication with scheduled patients and medical staff to eliminate missing information for scheduled procedures.
- Solves scheduling problems by engaging appropriate people and resources.
- Answers telephone calls efficiently and courteously.
- Provides information as requested or routes calls appropriately.
- Updates electronic medical records appropriately.
- Works as part of the surgical scheduling team and accepts other duties as requested.
- Handles various office details, including: retrieving and sending mail, preparing surgical documents and packets, filing documentation, sending and receiving faxes, and creating duplicate copies of surgical forms.
- Exemplifies professionalism by maintaining a courteous demeanor in all communications with departmental and clinical staff, physicians, and outside visitors.
- Performs duties to assist medical staff independently at the direction of management.
