- Pay Rate: $16.20 – $18/hr
The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This position requires a data entry background. Functions performed may include but are not limited to A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation and aliquoting. All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy and in a timely manner. The role is complex and requires strong organizational skills and the ability to learn and understand specimen types related to tests ordered by clients.
The SPT I must learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change daily. This position is critical to quality and customer satisfaction and requires flexibility due to changing daily demands.
- Perform general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department
- Handle A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens
- Perform imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting
- Enter up to 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour
- Work in a production environment with emphasis on productivity and quality standards
- Adhere to safety and compliance policies and procedures
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Communicate effectively with all levels of staff
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to change
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Basic understanding of computers
- Ability to work in a biohazard environment while practicing good safety habits
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to change
- Previous laboratory experience preferred
- Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory
- Previous hospital laboratory experience a plus
- Experience in a production environment preferred
- Knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing preferred
- Data entry accuracy and speed
- Organizational skills
- Ability to follow safety and compliance procedures
- Laboratory specimen processing knowledge
- Medical terminology familiarity
- Production environment experience
- Ability to learn compliance regulations that may change daily
- Ability to manage multiple customer demands
- Availability for weekends, holidays, on call and overtime based on staffing needs
