PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES- Provision of treatments, therapies including medication, to patients of all ages in accordance with physician written orders and in accordance with the organization and department policies and procedures. Has knowledge and training to apply special equipment and techniques in a manner that provides positive patient outcome. Has knowledge and training to assess patients for respiratory care needs and support, and ability to assess treatment or therapy outcome.
- Properly, skillfully, and safely operates all equipment including but not limited to oxygen delivery, nebulizer therapy, ventilator care, BIPAP use, percussive techniques, and sputum induction; appropriate to the assessment of the patient including age and condition.
- Provision of medications to patients of all ages in accordance with the physician written order. Demonstrates knowledge of the various medications used in treatment or therapies, their indications and contraindications and proper dosage. Has the ability to assess patient outcomes including recognition of adverse reaction to medications.
- Demonstrates the ability and knowledge to recognize and/or suggest alternative treatment or therapy modalities to physicians based upon assessment of the patient.
- Demonstrates the ability to provide adequate patient education and instruction on the safety, appropriate and effective use of various respiratory therapies and treatments.

Graduate of an approved two-year School of Respiratory Care or equivalent with current credentials of Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Must have current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification (CPR). Must have a valid State of Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner License. Be able to apply the learned principles, methods, and techniques of Respiratory Care, the use, care and operation of Respiratory Care equipment and supplies.
Must know the various locations of departments within the hospital, their policies and procedures. Six (6) to twelve (12) months of previous experience in an inpatient care setting is desirable. NRP/RRT/CRT
