The Orthopedic Surgery Clinic Assistant plays an integral role in delivering a professional, efficient, and patient-centered clinical experience. This position supports the orthopedic surgeon and clinical team by coordinating patient flow, facilitating clear communication, managing electronic medical records, and ensuring the accurate and timely exchange of information among patients, providers, and staff.
ResponsibilitiesPatient Experience & Communication
- Welcome and assist patients in a courteous and professional manner.
- Provide clear guidance throughout the patient visit, ensuring a smooth and organized experience.
- Escort patients to examination rooms and assist with visit preparation.
- Address general questions related to surgical procedures and post-operative expectations, referring clinical inquiries to the physician or appropriate clinical staff as needed.
- Promote a supportive, patient-centered environment at all times.
Clinical & Administrative Support
- Prepare, clean, and stock examination rooms with necessary supplies and equipment.
- Utilize medical information systems to access and present imaging studies, including X-rays.
- Accurately document and maintain patient information within the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Coordinate scheduling of follow-up appointments, imaging studies, and post-operative visits.
- Ensure patient charts are complete, accurate, and up to date.
- Arrange patient transportation assistance, including wheelchair coordination, when necessary.
- Collaborate effectively with the orthopedic surgeon, clinical staff, and administrative personnel to ensure continuity and quality of care.
- Communicate patient updates, concerns, and relevant information to the physician in a timely and organized manner.
- Support clinic workflows to optimize efficiency, patient satisfaction, and operational effectiveness.
Compliance & Safety
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Adhere to OSHA standards, including infection control protocols and workplace safety requirements.
- Follow all clinic policies, state regulations, and federal healthcare guidelines.
- Complete required certifications, training programs, and compliance updates as mandated by the clinic.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in a healthcare-related field preferred.
- Current HIPAA and OSHA certifications required (or completion upon hire if not current).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to function effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
This role is based in a fast-paced orthopedic clinical setting and requires frequent patient interaction, use of electronic medical systems, and collaboration with clinical and administrative staff. Strict adherence to professional standards, confidentiality requirements, and safety protocols is essential. While this role is currently structured part-time it has opportunity to grow into more.
