Shift: 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM
Work Schedule: 10-Hour Shifts - Monday to Saturday (4 days per week)

Pay Range: $16.20 - $24.28 per hour

The pay range for each role reflects Rush’s anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position. Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case.
SummaryThe Orthopedic Tech assists in carrying out patient-related activities, which require heavy lifting, such as positioning, ambulating, and transferring patients. The Orthopedic Tech assists with unit management of supplies and equipment. All of the work activities are assigned and supervised by the Registered Nurse. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Required Job Qualifications- High school diploma or GED.
- Good communication skills.
- Interact effectively with others in difficult situations
- Work requires the ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and to be standing or walking most of the designated shift
- Work requires lifting or carrying objects 40-50lbs independently and supporting and positioning patients, many of whom may exceed 400 lbs or have special transfer needs.
- Work conditions include performing procedures where carelessness could result in injury or illness and contact with potentially infectious materials and/or strong chemical agents.
Assists patients with activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Carries out predetermined assignments for each patient as delegated by a Registered Nurse; performs selected treatments, which are commensurate with his/her training.
- Assists patients in the safe practice of activities related to the development of strength, endurance, and ambulating as assigned.
- Immediately reports changes in patient condition to the appropriate RN.
- Assists patients in preparation for, as necessary, during and at the conclusion of therapies.
- Transports patients, hospital records, beds, equipment and other materials.
- Supports patient care by assuring supplies and equipment are available as needed.
- Wipes down equipment with cleaning agents as directed.
- Makes equipment and supplies rounds as needed.
- Inspects equipment routinely; reports repair needs to the appropriate department and follows up with that department.
- Takes inventory and ensures adequate stock levels.
- Delivers and picks up supplies as needed.
- Maintains cleanliness of equipment and work area.
- Contributes to a safe and efficient work environment of the clinical unit.
- Maintains a safe patient environment.
- Sets priority of duties based on needs of patient and unit, under the direction of the RN.
- Changes bed linens on unoccupied beds, contributes to maintaining orderliness of patient room.
- Answers patient’s lights and assists with patient requests.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Communicates all pertinent information to the appropriate team member throughout the shift and to the oncoming shift.
- Negotiates break time and communicates departure and return time per unit protocol
