Overview

The Office of Clinical Research (OCR) supports research infrastructure, administration, and compliance across the Biological Sciences Division and UChicago Medicine. The Coverage Analyst role focuses on regulatory compliance, billing, and coverage analysis for clinical research studies.

Responsibilities
  • Review clinical trial protocols, budgets, contracts, and informed consent documents to inform billing designations.
  • Create detailed coverage analyses outlining billing for clinical items and services required by research studies.
  • Develop study calendars within the Clinical Trial Management System, Oncore.
  • Ensure consistency in applying Medicare and other applicable rules across studies and align study documents with billing regulations.
  • Collaborate with Human Research Protection Program and research units to harmonize regulatory and budgetary processes.
  • Communicate coverage analysis results to principal investigators and/or study teams, providing explanations and addressing questions.
  • Ensure coverage analysis outputs are reviewable and auditable for quality and compliance.
  • Recruit, onboard, and train new clinical research staff on billing compliance procedures.
  • Coordinate department or clinic compliance with moderate guidance, prepare, complete, and submit compliance documentation, and coordinate compliance committee meetings.
  • Perform other related tasks as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in a related discipline, including knowledge and skills developed in clinical research, regulatory compliance, or related research activities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Clinical research experience such as conduct, regulatory compliance, or related research activities.
  • Coverage analysis experience.
Preferred Competencies
  • Interpret research protocols, budgets, and consent forms to extract billing/coverage information.
  • Problem‑solve using available information and expertise.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work with high volume.
