General SummaryThe Medical Assistant is responsible for daily clinical work in the outpatient/primary care setting in accordance with the Ambulatory Medical Assistant Scope of Practice. The assistant assists physicians and other staff under the direction of a registered nurse, advanced practice nurse and/or physician.
Essential Job Functions- Depending on location, performs phlebotomy and specimen processing as directed by the delegating provider.
- Administers intramuscular injections, subcutaneous injections, intradermal skin testing, topical medications, ophthalmic drops and nasal spray.
- Depending on location, performs ECGs, places Holter monitors and downloads telemetry data.
- Works in conjunction with other staff to maximize clinic flow.
- Intervenes appropriately in emergency situations.
- Documents data and changes in the electronic medical record.
- Provides assistance and/or back‑up support for administrative tasks including scheduling patient visits and performing basic check‑in/check‑out activities.
- Obtains measurements, patient history and other intake activities.
- Stocks and maintains the clinic area, including ordering supplies as needed.
- Demonstrates knowledge of pertinent aspects and competency with protocols related to chemical disinfection, high‑level disinfection and sterilization as required.
- Depending on location, directs high‑level disinfection scope cleaning in accordance with defined HLD processes.
- Completes trainings and education, including healthcare provider CPR.
- Performs other job functions as assigned.
- High school diploma required.
- Successful completion of a formal Medical Assistant program.
- Possesses 0–3 years of relevant clinical experience.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred but not required.
- Some college, preferred.
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
- Excellent communication and listening skills.
- Substantial interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with pediatric patients, families, physicians, nurses and other allied health personnel.
High School Diploma/GED (Required).
Pay Range$19.00–$28.50 hourly. Compensation is competitive, regularly reviewed, and may include additional hourly differentials or leadership incentives for select roles.
