General Summary

This Physical Therapist Aide position is responsible for patient care to include organization, clean‑up of treatment areas, and office duties as needed under the direction of Physical Therapist or supervisor. There is also a light housekeeping component in terms of restocking table linens, sanitizing treatment spaces and processing laundry. While there is no license or certification required for this position, qualified candidates will typically be recent college graduates hoping to pursue graduate school and a profession in physical therapy or another medical discipline.

Enthusiastic work ethic, attention to detail, strong multitasking and time management skills, and a friendly and compassionate demeanor are essential.

Essential Job Functions
  • Assists patients in preparation for treatment
  • Apply therapeutic modalities in accordance with department policies and procedures
  • Instruct patients in the use of ambulation aids, transfer techniques, and supportive devices as delegated by the therapist
  • Assist physical therapist and physical therapy assistants with procedures and treatments when requested
  • Document treatment given to patient
  • Document in medical records, when necessary, to explain cancellations of or changes in the physical therapy schedules
  • Clean and maintain treatment areas and equipment
  • Maintain adequate supplies of linen and necessary materials in treatment rooms
  • Therapeutic exercise instruction and supervision with strong focus on proper biomechanics
  • Assist with maintaining the cleanliness of the gym, restrooms, and break room (including laundering clinic towels and sheets)
  • Light back office/clerical duties as needed
  • Properly complete timesheet daily
  • Regular, consistent, and predictable attendance per PRO-PT’s attendance and punctuality policy
  • Meet/exceed key practice metrics established by the clinic manager that include service quality goals, promptness, consistency of attendance, and patient satisfaction scores
  • Speak, read, and write in Spanish proficiently
  • All other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the equipment used in physical therapy work
  • Knowledge of proper lifting techniques
  • Ability to successfully complete training
  • Ability to observe, evaluate, and record conditions, reactions, and changes in the physical condition of patients
  • Ability to maintain appropriate attitude and conduct necessary to the welfare of patients
  • Ability to create and maintain records and write brief reports

    Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to explain instructions and guidelines to others effectively
  • Ability to determine work priorities
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency
  • Interest in the field of Physical Therapy with plans to attend Physical Therapy school in the future
  • Experience in Physical Therapy requested, but not required
  • Personal Training experience a plus
Physical Requirements
  • Hearing:
    Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone
  • Speaking:
    Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone
  • Vision:
    Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient and reading information from printed sources and computer screens
  • Other:
    Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when required. Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care service, including injections. Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift. Requires exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment
