Summary:
Administers skilled direct and indirect patient care to an assigned group of patients according to the patient’s plan of care under the direction of a physician, providing clinically relevant information to assist the physician with the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Adheres to universal precautions and is compliant with infection control policies. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the diagnostic imaging area.
Must be able to perform a variety of routine and specialized technical procedures. Competency and efficiency in operating various ultrasound machines and probes to achieve high quality images for detailed fetal anatomic surveys, transvaginal ultrasounds, biophysical profiles, gynecological exams, and other procedures as needed.
- Must be a graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in general Obstetrics/Gynecology sonography required
- Currently registered as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Must be OB/GYN certified with the ARDMS.
- All certifications should be current and active
- Must possess the ability to perform obstetrical and gynecological scans
- CPR certification required
- Strong organizational and communication skills necessary
- Working knowledge of office equipment
- Up to date immunizations as required by MVHC.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Carry up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
- Standing 1-2 hours at a time.
- Walking approx. 30 minutes per hour throughout the day.
- Withstanding pressure and deals with emergency situations as needed.
- Average working hours with possible non-traditional hours.
- Potential for exposure to blood and body fluids.
- Ability to deal with upset or disgruntle patients in order to deescalate the situation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adheres to Personnel Policies.
- Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infections disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information.
- Prepares patients for ultrasound examination. Explains procedures to the patient prior to the commencement of the testing and provides patient education related to medical ultrasound.
- Conducts ultrasonic diagnostic procedures and records anatomical, pathological and/or physiological data.
- Maintains patient charts and records, and records and processes sonographic data.
- Reviews patient's electronic medical records to obtain and record identifying information required for the knowledge of what is needed for the physician to make an accurate diagnosis.
- Maintains proper operation of the ultrasound equipment. Recognize equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate corrective action. Exercise responsibility to ensure that the ultrasound equipment is functioning accurately.
- Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies.
- Performs diagnostic sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Creates high quality diagnostic images.
- Assists physicians in procedures as requested.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Knowledge in various fetal conditions and anomalies as well as an understanding of gynecological assessments.
- Performs calculations and measurements to appropriately focus the exam and obtain the data needed.
- Conduct patient clinical assessment and perform the diagnostic medical sonography examination ordered by the supervising physician in accordance with professional and facility protocols.
