An EEG (electroencephalogram) technician is a healthcare professional who records and monitors electrical activity in the brain to help diagnose neurological conditions such as epilepsy, sleep disorders, and brain injuries. They prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, applying electrodes to the scalp, and ensuring proper equipment setup. EEG technicians operate specialized machines to capture brain wave data, monitor patients during testing, and identify irregular patterns for physician review.

They maintain accurate records, ensure patient comfort and safety, and may assist neurologists in interpreting results while adhering to clinical standards and protocols.

• Explain EEG procedures to patients
• Prepare scalp and attach electrodes
• Ensure patient comfort and cooperation

• Set up and calibrate EEG machines
• Monitor brain wave activity during tests
• Troubleshoot technical issues

• Record electrical brain activity accurately
• Document patient behavior during testing

• Label and store EEG results properly
• Prepare reports for neurologists

• Work closely with neurologists and healthcare teams
• Follow safety and infection control protocols

• Neurodiagnostic Technology (NDT) program
• Hospital-based EEG training programs
• Community college certificate programs

• ABRET Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation
